# Answers from your data, with the work shown
Anyone in the company can ask a question in plain English, in Slack or in Silicon, and get a chart with the SQL and the metric definition behind it. Answers use the same metric definitions as your dashboards.

Problem
## A fast answer is worthless if it's wrong
Generic AI tools read raw tables and guess. The answer sounds confident, and nobody can tell where the number came from.
- 01 Generic AI guesses what a column means and returns a confident, wrong number.
- 02 Every team gets a different answer to the same question.
- 03 Analysts lose their week to ad-hoc requests in Slack.
How it works
## Ask, check the answer and share it

### Ask where you already work
Drop a question in any Slack channel or in the Silicon app. The answer arrives in the thread with a chart, ready to share.
Illustrative example
Why did delivery delays spike last week?
Ask
Traced from fct_deliveries and dim_drivers:
Delays rose 318% between Nov 8 and Nov 10
Heavy rainfall took 62% of drivers offline
Order volume held steady at ~14,200 a day
Back within SLA (2.0 hrs) by Nov 11
Features
## What it reads, what it returns, and where it works.
### What it reads
Only the context your data team has defined and approved.
- Governed metrics
- dbt models and descriptions
- Verified answers
- User permissions
### What it returns
Everything someone needs to trust and reuse the answer.
- Charts
- SQL
- Explanations
- Suggested follow-ups
### Where it works
Where your team already asks questions.
- Slack
- Microsoft Teams (Pro)
- The Silicon app
- MCP and API
## How does Silicon avoid hallucinated answers?
Silicon answers from your semantic layer, not raw tables. It uses the metrics, dimensions and joins your data team defined, runs every query with the asking user's permissions, and shows the SQL and definitions behind each answer so it can be checked.
FAQ
## Questions, answered
### Which questions can the AI analyst answer? +
Anything your semantic layer can answer: metrics broken down by the dimensions you have defined, trends over time, comparisons and root-cause questions. If a question needs a metric that does not exist yet, it says so instead of guessing.
### Does it work in Slack and Microsoft Teams? +
Yes. Slack is available on every plan. Microsoft Teams alerts and answers are included on Pro and Enterprise.
### Can it show me data I'm not allowed to see? +
No. The AI analyst runs every query as the person asking, so row- and column-level permissions apply exactly as they do in dashboards. Admins can also limit which models each agent can use, or run an agent in metadata-only mode.
### Is my data used to train AI models? +
No. Your data is never used to train models.
### Which warehouses does it support? +
BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, Postgres, Trino, ClickHouse, Athena and DuckDB.
